Land of the free? It cost at most, a few casinos. Basking in naivety. Ignorance is bliss in a place like this, Where the geography decides who we can be, this American dream. "In God's name we trust" on our objects of lust, The gold we sold our souls for. Hands to our chest, "In God's name" we bless this mess we call America. Surely we're indivisible? NO. Blinded by the white stripes of the flag We keep in hand, to divide the land. Deem the superior race, pale face, to delegate What was never ours in the first place. "In God's name we trust" on our objects of lust, The gold we sold our souls for. Hands to our chest, "In God's name" we bless this mess we call America. What we proclaim doesn't mean that we'll change Doesn't mean that we'll stray from the same old way we were. Innocent arrested 'til assimilated they've confessed it; This is our destiny manifested. Undereducated, Over medicated, Sedated society. we've become proud of how we're immune to our consciences now. "In God's name we trust" on our objects of lust, The gold we sold our souls for. Hands to our chest, "In God's name" we bless this mess we call America.

about

Sacramento, California — A collective of more than 20 Sacramento musicians are coming together to release a new album, “By Your Side (In Solidarity With Black Lives)” to benefit on-the-ground community organizers and bail funds for those protesting in the wake of George Floyd’s death, and the countless deaths of other black lives at the hands of police. The mixtape will be released on Bandcamp on Friday, June 5 for $10 in conjunction with the platforms' revenue-share-free Friday, with 100 percent of proceeds directly benefiting local anti-racist relief and action, such as NorCal Resist.

The collective action was coordinated by musician Talia Poydras, who makes music under the alias Tommie Phoenix. “With all the horrific events of just the past couple of weeks stacking onto each other, including the lynching of Ahmaud Arbery, the Amy Cooper incident, and the murder of George Floyd, I felt more helpless than ever. I was emotionally exhausted, and at that point, I knew I needed to take real action and be part of the solution in any capacity I could in order to stop this cycle of violence and silence. Everyone has their own part in this revolution of change; I became inspired by other artists who were donating their earnings from their craft to the cause. I looked to see what tools I had at my immediate disposal and found my talented friends willing and ready to help me make a difference for our community,” Poydras says.

"I’ve never organized anything of importance like this before, and trying to achieve this release in less than a week was a huge undertaking and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the help of the team I enlisted. Sacramento’s people are so diverse, and my goal was to reach as many people as I could by asking artists of different backgrounds with different audiences to contribute," Poydras says. "I think it’s important, despite our various experiences, that we’re presenting this album as a collective, not only to promote this cause, but to promote the idea of unity and relying on each other to be better as a community. We’re able to do more together. I want people who see this album to know their voice does matter and that we’re all responsible in making the difference."

The album artwork was designed by artist and designer Rooftop of Advisry, a multimedia brand in Sacramento.

In addition, the artist known on instagram as @peace.on.the.sun will be providing a surprise screenprint exclusive to the album (claim your print by emailing peaceonthesun@gmail.com and make the subject the album name!)
